This is a long-awaited post. For the last 10 -15 years, after simplifying my way of living, I have experienced so many positive changes in my life. So, I thought of starting this blog to share those lessons I learned and the experiences I’ve had.
I am grateful that I had a wonderful childhood filled with many good memories, thanks to my maternal grandparents.
My grandmother used to collect all the leftover scrap pieces of cloth after finishing every sewing project. Once she has enough scraps, she would piece the scraps together and make them into a long cloth. This was the cloth she wore over, while cooking in the kitchen, to protect her dress from stains. She never had fancy aprons. But she knew how to make use of what she had to serve the purpose.
My grandfather used to collect scrap pieces of paper like handbills, grocery packaging, paper bags etc. Then, when het got time he used to hand-bind those papers together and make small booklets to use as notebooks to write his day-to-day notes. Resources were anyway less, so they got creative and always made something useful out of waste.
They did not know about the concept like ”The 3 Rs” or the terms like ‘Sustainable Practices’. But, reducing, reusing and recycling is something that they already practiced in their lives.
Now at the age of 48, when I look back, I can see that the kind of life I live today has been influenced a lot by the skills they both possessed and the way of life they led. Handcrafting, simple living, and slowing down in life have made it easy for me to embrace a good life. In a fast-paced digital world, I am happily living an analog life.
Thank you for stopping by my page, and I hope the little stories I share might help you to make a small change in your life as well. Let’s try to cultivate a good life for ourselves and our loved ones.
