HOW THE AFTERNOON UNFOLDS

Your Afternoon,

00.00 – 00:15

Arrival & Settling In

Come through the door. We make introductions, get comfortable, and talk about where you have been and what Sri Lanka has felt like so far. No agenda. Just arrival.

00.15 -00:50

Tea Service & Storytelling

Authentic Sri Lankan tea poured — with a little explanation of how Sri Lankans drink it and why it matters. Local snacks at the side. Then the stories, about Sri Lankan culture, history, and the daily life here.

00:50 -01:20

Binding Your Journal

The table is laid with materials — papers in different textures and weights, covers in fabric and card, ribbons, botanicals, small printed pieces of Sri Lankan ephemera. You choose what speaks to you, layer with your own memorabilia from the trip, and bind your journal by hand with simple techniques guided step by step.

01:20 – 02:20

Guided Journaling Session

You receive your prompt cards. You take your time to write — no pressure, no right answers. Just your thoughts about your journey, captured while they’re still fresh. Those who want can share a line at the end.

02:20 -02:45

Sinhala Scripting

Before you leave, you will learn to write your name in the Sinhala script — one of the oldest and most beautiful alphabets in the world. It takes about ten minutes. Most guests add it to their journal cover. Nobody forgets it.

02:45 – 03:00

Send-Off

Then: a warm goodbye, your sealed future-self letter tucked inside, and a prompt card to take home.

A note on junk journaling

Junk journaling is the art of making something beautiful from scraps and memorabilia. Everything is precious. Everything has a place. A travel ticket becomes a page element. A flower from a temple becomes a pressed layer.

THE JOURNALING KIT

A table full of things to choose from

This is junk journaling and travel journaling combined — you build something layered, personal, and textured. Everything on the table has been chosen with care. Here is what will be waiting on the table:

  • A selection of handpicked base papers — kraft, cream, graph, watercolour, and textured
  • Cover options – fabric, recycled or natural-texture etc. for you to choose from
  • Binding thread, needle, beeswax, and a bone folder
  • Washi tapes, torn papers, and small decorative embellishments
  • Dried botanicals and small printed ephemera from Sri Lanka
  • A dedicated pocket for your personal memorabilia — tickets, receipts, maps, candy wrappers etc.
  • Journaling prompt cards, printed in English and Sinhala
  • A small sealed envelope for your future-self letter

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need Prior journaling experience?

Not at all. This experience is designed for beginners and anyone curious about slowing down and enjoying a creative afternoon.

Do I need to be good at crafting?

Not at all. I will guide every stitch. The beauty lies in the imperfect, handmade look.

What should I bring?

Just yourself. All materials and creative supplies are provided. If you have the travel memorabilia that you collected during the trip please bring them along to make your journal more personalized.

Is this a formal workshop?

No. The experience is relaxed, conversational, and designed to feel warm and personal rather than instructional.

What if I don’t like writing?

The prompts are very optional. You can scribble, doodle, sketch, or whatever you feel comfortable. The journal can become a scrapbook too.

Is your home easy to find?

Yes. I live in Pelawatta, just 12km from Colombo city. I’ll send exact directions and a map pin after booking.
